I would suggest a free image viewer/resizer like www.xnview.com for Windows. Or Preview which is built-in with Mac OS.

Here is my scenario:

I have granted access to a user for a specific folder but I wish to restirct uploads to the size I have set, 800x800. However, from the user's profile, they have the option to upload any size image because there is no way to lock down the resizer.

Any thoughts on how I can limit access to the resizer for the user?

You mean you want to lock the resize so that it always resizes to 800px, and they have no choice to change it?

That would require a code hack I assume ...

Why gallary does not work with large images, more like 2000x2000?

I would like to work with images larger than 3000x3000 would be it realized if this possibility in future versions?

Bitmaps in flash 8 (imagevue working in FL8 currently) are limited to max 2880x2880pix width/height.

Well, ask the question differently.
Do you plan to move the product to the latest version of flash?

I also wonder this ... No screen supports 2800px, and 90% of your visitors will scale images like that down to 25% of its original size anyway. What does it mean? It means visitors will be waiting to load files that are 10x what they need for viewing, and will slow down the interface. You want to use it for zoom so visitor can see the details? I really don't see many people finding that useful. Optionally, you can use the _altimage feature to attach a high-res version of the image to the download- or "open in new window" function.

I think that many people do not want to convert your photos. They just pour them in a folder and want them to be properly displayed. That is, They do not use the uploader to upload photos, where you can automatically resize. It is unfortunate that there is no such functionality.

Well, even Picasa, Flicker and every web-related service requires you to upload photos from the admin interface to have them resized. In theory we have an option to resize pictures from Imagevue for example first time they are viewed, but unfortunately this is not possible because 99% of the shared hosting servers people are using, do not allow resizing pictures that are this big (because of allocated system resources).
