hi, i've always wondered what one can actually do when someone is using our stuff without a license ? i mean.. can you go people vs. random online guy for $150 ?! is it worth it, or do you just contact the guy hoping he'll agree on paying ? i ask this because i'm having the same issues :(

It's not worth it ...
One thing though - Usually the pirate versions I come across are not commercial usage, but private people. I don't think commercial users/companies want to put themselves under the scrutiny of using pirate software on their site. I would certainly warn them ...

In the future we would consider using PHP encoding like http://www.ioncube.com/sa_encoder.php - It would require the gallery to verify itself and compare licence with domain its running from. I do however feel this cuts down of the freedom, flexibility and integrity of an everyday user.

Oh no! Please no Ion Cube or Zend Encoding!!

As you say yourself it dramatically cuts down the flexibility and freedom. It for example allows no more customization and also gives me no more possibilities to trace down and fix errors myself. Same with activation and the binding to a certain domain. I maybe want to install the script on a test server or locally first and not on my productive server. It also makes me completely rely on the Author. What happens when he no longer wants Maintain and Support the script? Just imagine you need to change the domain name one day or the script wont run on the new PHP Version... ?

I recently bought a Zend Encoded PHP Shopping Cart. But it was never running on my Webserver because of Several Domains Pointing to the same HostingAccount. And the Support Forum was full with frustrated Users with Licence problems. When I requested a refund I never got a reply and was immediately being locked out of the forum. With the help of my Credit Card company I finally got my Money back.

So far my experience with encoded Scripts. I will NEVER use a encrpyted Sciprt again and I always try to find alternatives for programmes requiring activation.

I understand piracy is a problem but you should try to find another way instead to penalize your honest and licenced users.

Maybe you cold offer a free imagevueX Version for private use only with basic functionality and design. And your licenced users who have acces to the Download Area can download additional Plugins, Templates, the SourceFiles, the most recent updates and other valuable information like how to remove the copyright notice, etc. Something like a free and a pro Version.

Its of course your decision where you want to go with imagevueX, I personally think a restrictive Licence engine is the wrong way.

What do you think about?

I'm a home user and I have a paid lic. =O

Rule of thumb. If it hits the inter net its free game. I do have a question tho. Do I have to pay for the next ver. of the program? Small upgrade fee or free?

I suspect there may be an upgrade fee of 50% for existing users, although we will continue support on old version and may even do some further updates here(free).

I realize this is an old post.
But IonCube is such a 'deal-killer' for us, that I had to weigh in on this issue.

Thanks for the great product.

Well, this is old post indeed. Actually the best way is just constantl improvements. If you check google there is an outdated 2.0.2 version which was snatched from our site awhile back because somebody left passwords laying openly. Easy to tell who uses pirated one when they are coming back asking about bugs which been fixed since.
