Yes. You still have the X3
slideshow option with autoplay of course. The reason this worked so well in X2 (Flash), was because the stage was without scroll, and we could center the slideshow on stage. This is less practical in modern html5 websites (X3), which must support mobile devices, and where scroll is required for much of the functionality.
Therefore, slideshow-type functionality is now best achieved in "popup" mechanisms, where we can block the scroll and utilize the entire stage on a separate layer. For example the X3 popup module:

On a related note, although the X2 slideshow was "neat", it is less functional than the X3 popup, which displays images faster, and at "best size", regardless of the screen size they are being viewed from.

Yes, I agree this could be an option. I will look into it.
I would have to note that most visitors will want to navigate images at their own pace. After all, it is really easy to navigate when keyboard, mouse or swipe. Personally, if I encounter an autoplaying slideshow, the first thing I will do is look for the STOP function so I can navigate myself.
As mentioned, it could be an option. Personally, when I click the link above, I don't want to "wait" until next slide appears, or often, if I find an image of interest, the slideshow is going to next image before I am finished viewing. For me, this is not intuitive.

Also interesting, but in my experienced opinion, it simply isn't used. The small thumbs are too small to give any good impression about the image, and a modern user will simply click through images, as it's faster and more effective even when just "previewing". This is why thumbnails are not used in facebook (etc) slideshows for instance. Also, we need to consider how this will affect the UI across all devices (more clutter).
I agree it's good to have some options :) I won't always agree that all options are useful.
Thanks for all the feedback!
