Small URLs when Sharing

11 Aug 2012, 18:31

When sharing an album to Twitter the share function no longer generates a small url.... requiring the user to manually generate a small url. This kinda defeats the point of the share button for Twitter as the urls take up so much space.

Can you show me this in action? You know that when you actually post the Tweet, the URL is technically shortened? When it is still in the input field, it is not shortened yet because obviously you want to know your own link.

Sometimes, you might even see the Twitter URL un-shortened in the Twitter listings, but this is only if there is enough room in the tweet to display the entire URL. Besides, technically it is still shortened, but they want to display the original URL-text if possible ... They just do like this: LONG. This means they still screen all URLs, and also display the short url, unless there is space to display the original one ... and why would they not display the original one if there is room?

At best, you would be pre-shortening the URL, and then Twitter would also shorten it, basically making it an ugly double-redirected link.

Hey Karl...

This is what the tweet looks like in Twitter... "kelso-ridge-33 - Mike showing us how its done on Kelso's knife edge — with Michael Poland http://www.merelyafleshwound.com/imagev ... dge-33.JPG …"

I am sure you are correct in how it works... from a layman's eye it looks like it isn't shortened. Moving forward I will trust it.

Thanks
Alex
